Here is the rundown on your visit.

Immunizations

BEFORE THE APPOINTMENT: We encourage you to inform yourself and your child of the immunization and explain the reason for it. Learn about immunizations here. It may also be helpful to determine your comfort strategy prior to the appointment if your child exhibits fear or anxiety. If your child is not feeling well on the day of your appointment, it may be best to reschedule. Be sure to reschedule your appointment in the near future to stay consistent with your child’s immunization schedule. At Edmond Pediatrics, we follow the immunization guidelines as recommended by the American Academy of Pediatrics and the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention.

DURING THE APPOINTMENT: Your pediatrician will discuss the benefits and risks of the vaccines, answer any questions you may have, and administer the vaccination. Typically, your child will be monitored for a short period as a precaution for allergic reactions to the vaccine. You will also be instructed of the aftercare if any.

AFTER THE APPOINTMENT: It is important to keep a close eye on your child after the immunization to watch for allergic reactions and side effects such as swelling, aches, pains, etc. Ensure that your child remains hydrated and contact your pediatrician immediately if side effects occur. For emergencies, immediately seek emergency medical attention.

Well-Child Visits

At a Well-Child Visit, you will have the opportunities to ask questions about your child’s behavior, growth, and development. We will also discuss what you can expect to see from your child between the present and their next Well-Child Exam. Plus, you will be informed of healthy eating habits and ways to keep active. If your child is due for an immunization, it will be administered at this time.
